From cans to teeth,
tin keeps it shiny.
Tin’s special ability to resist corrosion makes it ideal for use in the shiny metal coatings on kitchen utensils, tools, ornaments, pins, and even tin cans! Despite their name, most tin cans are made of steel, but the tin coating keeps the food safe. Tin’s mixed with other metals to make corrosion- resistant alloys like bronze and pewter. And when you brush your teeth, you’re using the tin compound SnF2 (also called fluoride) to help prevent decay. And it starts out as deposits of casserite in the ground.
