Putting the shine on.
Why do the coin-makers use shiny nickel? For the same reason it’s in the ball bearings of skateboards: it’s hard, non-rusting and incredibly long-lasting. Copper-nickel is in some of the toughest water pipes. Nickel-steel makes burglarproof safes. From stainless steel knives and cookware to the coins in your pocket (almost every one of them has some nickel in the alloy) nickel is the metal that we rely on for hard corrosion-resistant alloys. And much of it occurs as the mineral pentlandite.
