The workhorse of
the metal world.
From the Iron Age—when iron tools transformed agriculture—to today, iron is arguably the most important metal. It’s in the steel of the chair you sit on and the table you eat on. It supports the roof over your head, and holds together the car, bus, or train that you ride to work or school. Iron is used for strength: the frame of your computer or TV screen is probably made with a steel alloy. And much of it occurs as the mineral hematite.
